On the 2010 NFL Survivor Pool Strategy... and How I Fared...

Knowing nothing about the 2010 NFL Surivor betting pool strategy, I decided to enter one (http://www.sportsbook.com/) and paid $25 to enter a pool at the beginning of the season. After reviewing a few strategies online (http://www.teamrankings.com/blog/nfl/nfl-survivor-strategy-week-1-advice and http://www.docsports.com/current/survivor-pool-advice.html), I picked the Tennessee Titans for Week-1.

My own newly created strategy was to pick a team that had the greatest predicted season differential (10-6 for the Titans against 4-12 for the Oakland Raiders) and always pick the team playing at home. The last part of my strategy, that may have led to undoing, was to save the more obvious teams for later.

Well, I made it through Week-1, but 2000 of the 7000+ in my pool were knocked out.

In Week-2, I picked the Carolina Panthers vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and I got kicked out of the pool myself. I  would like to think that I was consistent with my strategy, except that I should not have waited to pick on the more obvious teams for later. Well, what are you gonna do...

Anyway, the major upsets for Week-1 (per the betting pool) were the Chargers, 49ers and Cowboys, who knocked out 1500+ people from the pool. The Bears, thanks to their controversial last second victory against the Lions saved 850 people from getting kicked out of the pool. http://www.nfl.com/scores/2010/REG1

For Week-2, the major upsets were the loss of the Cowboys (to Da Bears), Vikings and Panthers (my pick), and that knocked out another 1000 people from the pool. http://www.nfl.com/scores/2010/REG2

For Week-3, everyone played safe, with only the Redskins' loss to the Houston Texans being an upset, knocking out a paltry 200 from the pool. http://www.nfl.com/scores/2010/REG3

The biggest bets for Week-4 are for the Saints to win against the hapless Panthers, and for the Chargers to win against the Cardinals.

Anyway, so much for my non-strategy, will post more on whatever pops into my mind later... have fun and a great Football Sunday.

On SNL Weekend Update, there was a hilarious skit where Bobby Moynihan on Second Hand News, said that Tiger Woods' divorce from Ellen DeGeneres was not going through because she was, you know, Lebanese... Hilarious!

Enjoy... till our next post...
